Turner’s Main Focus:
Turner is a North America-based, international construction services company and is a leading builder in diverse market segments. With a staff of 5,200 employees, the company completes $10 billion ($7bn at the time) of construction on 1,500 projects each year (with projects such as Madison Garden Transformation, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, BBVA Tower in Mexico City, etc). Turner also has its own insurance company with another $7bn in revenue per year. Turner is a 100% subsidiary of Hochtief AG, and was taken off the public markets as part of the acquisition.
My Role:
With the full-time IT Director being incapacitated, as a consultant / contractor for the Evanston Group in Chicago I ran the company-wide IT department across all 40 domestic offices and all IT staff in those offices to support both the construction- as well as the insurance company. Reporting also to the CIO of Hochtief, who visited in Dallas regularly, and on my visit to Essen, Germany HQ. The task set included large scale projects such as Active Directory implementation, review and change of internal network and application security (including completely re-writing a $500,000 Lucent security & network design), and a desktop migration to XP for ~5,000 PCs. Even provided some hands-on escalated technical support to IT staff around the company, especially with routers and WAN connectivity.
