Dr. Alex Kim, acclaimed dDoS expert joins Melior, Inc. as CTO
Dr. Kim, whose research includes co-authoring a dDoS related patent for Lucent, sought after new techniques after recognizing that existing techniques claimed by new vendors in the last 3 years were insufficient to thwart new undetectable low-level TCP threats such as "Shrew Attacks". "I am pleased to have found Melior,Inc., their research and techniques are similar to those that I began to develop myself, and their capability to execute and develop such a solution despite their size is a testament to their genious." iSecure is the most promising technology I've seen to date and I look forward to driving the delivery of this unique solution in its current version and throughout what is sure to be a leading edge technical road map that Melior's customers will benefit from in the near future."
Bio: Y. Alex Kim, Ph.D.
Dr. Kim has been working in software and communication networking industry for over 10 years all in research and development capacity. He has a special expertise in the research of Distributed Denial-of-Service attacks (DDoS). His Ph.D. dissertation, entitled "Towards Defeating Network Denial-of-Service Attacks", is entirely dedicated to the topic of DDoS with state-of-the-art methods on how to win the war with DDoS. He has published several research papers on the DDoS defense and published more than 20 research papers in leading journals and conferences for the topics of high-speed switch design, Internet traffic analysis and load balancing, object-oriented software architecture, and real-time embedded software design.
Before joining Melior, he held several technical and managerial positions. He was a Member of Technical Staff at Lucent Technologies, where he developed the control software and firmware for the CDMA-based wireless networks. He was involved in developing various TCP/IP and ATM-based protocols for voice and data applications, designing the network and the software architectures. In recognition of his outstanding contribution, he was awarded with the Recognition of Excellence Award from Lucent Technologies.
Dr. Kim co-founded a New Jersey-based startup company that developed a technology for delivering multimedia/video advertising over the Internet and data mining techniques for analyzing users' behavior while protecting their privacy. He raised the seed funding of over $1M and led the development team in creating the key technologies, including the 3-tier network architecture, the protocols for exchanging control information and the content, video segmentation and reassembly algorithms, block encoders, self-organizing content browser, and so on.
He also worked at Andersen Consulting (now Accenture) as a Management Information System Consultant working on business system analysis. At Cleveland Clinic Foundation, one of the largest hospitals in the nation, he performed massive financial data analysis to support managerial decision makers. While at Case Western Reserve University as a research assistant, he worked on a robotic manufacturing system, building its communication infrastructure and the real-time control software.
Dr. Kim received his Ph.D. degree in Computer Engineering from Case Western Reserve University and Bachelor degree in Economics from Seoul National University in Korea. He is a member of the ACM, IEEE Computer Society and Communication Society, and Korean-American Scientists and Engineers Association.
