Melior announces shipment of the Barbican RNP CyberWarfare Defense product
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Dallas, Texas, January 18, 2005 - With the availability of Barbican RNP (Real-time Network Protection), Melior introduces a new "CyberWarfare Defense" layer to network and application security – the first major advancement in security technology since firewalls became available, defending against Denial-of-Service and Penetration Testing probes.
Following the November introduction of the product, Melior now announces the availability and shipment of Barbican RNP, offering the first product proven to work against distributed Denial-of-Service (dDoS) attacks and Penetration Testing probes, the pre-cursor of most network- and application compromises.
Barbican RNP is available globally through resellers, and retails for US$18,000 in the Americas, and for Euro 18,000 in Europe, Asia, and all other countries.
"With the release of Barbican RNP, Melior introduces the first major security technology development since firewalls were invented. While the main function of firewalls is to authenticate valid access and to limit the available TCP/IP ports, they remain vulnerable themselves, and cannot eliminate invalid traffic, thus permitting Penetration Testing probes, distributed Denial-of-Service attacks, and other malware into the protected infrastructure," says Michael Rathbun, VP of Product Development. He continues: "A new layer in front of firewalls, as well as internally, where firewalls are too expensive and use too many IT resources for reasonable deployment, is necessary to accomplish unified threat management, and discard invalid traffic before it even reaches firewalls and other critical applications. As an inline appliance, Barbican RNP delivers a real-time network protection, not permitting a single invalid packet into the network, and true zero-day protection, as it functions completely without signatures."
"In essence, Melior offers more than dDoS and PenTest defenses, and the only technology proven to work, with 300 million users successfully defended against dDoS attacks through prior application of our technology. Barbican RNP represents the introduction of a new security layer: CyberWarfare Defense" says Matt Gair, Co-Founder and COO at Melior. "We purposely price the product very aggressively, to allow a wide range of organizations to take advantage of the additional protection in various environments: online hosting, perimeter defense, as well as internally between between critical LANs and WANs."
"With the global recognition of dDoS attacks and ongoing PenTest probes, security professionals find it tiresome to hear about the 'world’s best intrusion prevention’ for a glorified intrusion detection system, and demand to see a truly new technology development," Thomas J. Ackermann, Melior’s Founder and CEO says. "It has become imperative to peel off the layers of marketing fluff and vague feature descriptions, thus exercising some truth in advertisement. The only viable design to intercept invalid traffic in real-time is an inline appliance, which will not permit a single invalid packet to intrude, and to make it completely signature-free, so it is truly enabled to deliver zero-day defenses against new attack forms," he continues. "Why should any organization spend over $200,000 on a Cisco (i.e. Riverhead) product, which provides neither real-time nor zero-day protection, when they can deploy true CyberWarfare Defense for $18,000 – and across the entire perimeter?"
