Melior’s Barbican RNP fixes fatal Cisco and Juniper Flaws
Dallas, Texas, January 27, 2005 --- While everyone owning Cisco and Juniper switches and routers is scrambling to apply critical patches after the new warnings released by CERT and the media this week, deploying the new CyberWarfare Defense layer - now available with Melior, Inc.’s Barbican RNP (Real-time Network Protection) product - fixes these Denial-of-Service exposures and prevents many others.
The CERT and vendor releases of high-risk vulnerabilities discovered in both Cisco and Juniper switches and routers this week, described as "fatal flaws" in the media (InformationWeek, CMP/CRN, Heise Verlag/Germany) today, and affecting almost every network infrastructure, demonstrate the need for an additional layer of protection against malformed, specially crafted packets to exploit these Denial-of-Service vulnerabilities.
"Melior developed a new technology, which we believe is the first major advancement in security technology since firewalls became available ten years ago," says Thomas J. Ackermann, Founder and CEO. "With the January 18th shipment of Barbican RNP, we introduce a new 'CyberWarfare Defense' layer, which for the first time inspects every single packet for validity in an appliance not addressable and compromiseable -no MAC or IP address-, and instantly discards all malformed packets, which cause exactly the Denial-of-Service conditions described in these alerts. No invalid packet enters the attacked infrastructure."
Barbican RNP is an in-line device, which validates all traffic before it reaches any vulnerable devices, such as routers, switches, firewalls, and servers, and thus defends in real time from disruptions of communications and applications. It cannot be addressed in itself, unlike the systems and services it protects, and works signature-free, thus truly providing "zero-day" protection against known and new exploits.
Invalid traffic, such as all forms of Denial-of-Service and malformed packet attacks, are intercepted and discarded without the introduction of noticeable latency; Penetration Testing probes are intercepted and returned with random data components, in essence cloaking the protected infrastructure; and, among many other benefits, firewall processing loads are drastically reduced.
Aggressively priced at US$18,000 in the Americas and Euro 18,000 in Europe and Asia, Barbican RNP is immediately globally available.
